What kind of soil am I?
“A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
The gospel is being sown continually. Many disciples, with the gift of evangelism, are doing a great work in exposing and presenting the gospel throughout our communities. Once the gospel has been planted, though, it requires fertile soil to grow into a bountiful crop. What am I doing to be sure that those around me have the nutrients they need. Am I a rocky place? Am I a thorn, choking the life out of someone trying to grow? Or am I good soil, providing nutrients, water, and good growing conditions so that other can produce the crop they so desperately need? I pray that I will be willing to provide a place for others to grow and develop safely, helping provide a root system that supports others in their calling and purpose.
