Recovery Update 5/12/2010

OK. Now for an update on my recovery. Believe it or not, I have had requests to post what is going on. I went to see my orthopedic surgeon yesterday. The day before, I had my x-rays done. The x-ray report showed no healing, but no change in placement of hardware, etc. I was (to say the least) disappointed. I had been convinced that there would be good callous formation and that I would be able to start therapy to strengthen the bone, hopefully progressing to walking without assistance (crutches, walker, scooter, etc.). My balloon was popped Monday afternoon. I had to spend a few hours depressed and wallowing in self-pity. Deep down, I knew everything would work out, that there is a purpose in this, and that I just needed to be patient. I went to the appointment yesterday fully prepared to schedule bone grafting. This would mean another surgery (taking bone from my hip and placing it in my leg), more time away from patients, more time for recovery, and more burden on my fam...

Convenience

Upon the death of Solomon, his son Rehoboam was to take the throne. Jeroboam had been called out of Egypt (he had gone there to escape the death threats of Solomon) and was present (and speaking for) Israel when they went to Sheckem to witness the crowning of Rehoboam. The people of Israel were weary of Solomon’s forced labor and asked Rehoboam to lighten the load of forced labor. Rehoboam took counsel from the elders as well as from his young counselors (contemporaries). The elders advised agreeing to lighten the load to develop trust. The young counselors advised him to increase the load of the people. The king did not listen to the people, showing pride instead of humility. The people (Israel) then rebelled, turning against the line of David. They went to their homes and refused to be ruled by a descendant of David. Rehoboam continued to rule over the sons of Israel who lived in Judah. He sent Adoram (minister of labor) to them and they stoned him to death.   Israel (10 northern...

Confidence in Idols?

Me: "God, please help me understand. Help me be more aware. Bless my studies. I am educated. I have lots of life experience. I should understand you better. I should know what you want me to do. How can I know you better?" God: "Get rid of your idols. Serve only me." The wisest man to ever live (King Solomon) could not follow his own advice. He began his life humbly, and before taking over the reign of the kingdom of Israel, was given an opportunity by God to ask for blessings. Instead of riches, power, or longevity, Solomon asked for wisdom. And it was given to him. He was given wisdom like no one before or since. He ruled with wisdom and developed the reputation for conveying that wisdom to his nation and those around him. But it is one thing to have wisdom and an entirely different one to apply it to our lives. Solomon came to view himself above the laws of God, turning to alliances with enemies and worshiping pagan idols. This great man, the wisest man to e...
